SALT LAKE CITY – The general election is on Nov. 3, but Utahns don’t have to wait until then to cast their votes.
How and when someone votes in Utah may depend on whether they’re already registered. To check, use the state’s voter registration website.
Haven’t registered to vote yet?
Utahns can register to vote by mail/email or online through Oct. 23.
Voters can also register by using our built-in form below.
Utahns can also register in-person during the early voting period and on Election Day with two valid forms of identification:
- A document that verifies your identity
- A document that shows proof of residence

Voting early by mail
Active registered voters in Utah will have their ballots mailed out starting Oct. 13.
Mail-in ballots must be received by the county clerk’s office no later than 8:00 p.m. on Election Day; otherwise they will not be counted.
Voters dropping their ballots in a drop box must deposit them no later than 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
Voters can find a secure drop box in their area on Utah’s voter information website.
Utahns can track their ballots via BallotTrax or by checking its status on the state’s voter website.
It’s recommended that voters mail in their ballots as early as possible to ensure it arrives before the deadline.
Voting early in-person
Early in-person voting begins Oct. 20 and goes through Oct. 30.
