Concerned residents asked the Salt Lake City Council to reconsider a 12.5% property tax increase on Tuesday, citing already-skyrocketing costs of living โ not just for homeowners, but renters too.
The increase comes as the city, like its residents, is struggling with rising costs. The council acknowledged affordability concerns, but ultimately voted unanimously to adopt the tax increase.
Council Chair Alejandro Puy previously told Utah Junction that the decision to levy the taxes was difficult, but necessary to keep city services running.
